Some Essential Points for Writing Analytical Essays
Analytic essays, as the name implies, aim to analyze a theme or topic. Analytical essays are written primarily to analyze a story, poem, a piece of art, novel or any other literary work. Analytical essays can also be written on a book, movie, musical concert, play or even a work of art like a painting or sculpture.
No matter what the topic of the analytical essay is, the main aim of the writer is to judge the theme by presenting the facts to the reader. Personal opinion should be avoided in analytical essays; however, even when the writer does have a personal opinion, it should be presented to the reader with the help of supporting facts and resources. Using examples, facts and data to prove a particular point in an analytical essay is the best way to convince a reader about a certain position taken by the writer.
When choosing a topic or theme for writing an analytical essay, it is important for the writer to have a basic idea of the subject or topic being discussed in the essay. This will make it easy for the writer to look for supporting facts to back up arguments in the essay. Finally, the writer should include scholarly references and resources in the analytical essay and there should be some quotations in the essay, if possible.
When referring to outside sources, the writer should acknowledge them with in-text parenthetical citations and should list them at the end of the essay in the reference or bibliography page. All sources used should be acknowledged or else the essay will be considered as plagiarized and you could end up losing marks. Last but not the least, you should be objective in your analysis and try to present both aspects of the argument – this is the key to writing a winning analytical essay.
